Canmore Nordic Center Wedding | Canmore Wedding Photographer | Brittany + Tyson

There are some weddings where you just know they’re going to be beautiful, Brittany and Tyson’s was one of those.
Having known them for nearly a decade, and Brittany from our art school days back in Medicine Hat— I had a feeling their Canmore wedding would be something special. But even with that, it still managed to be better than I could have imagined. They truly had the best team of folks who showed up and showed out for their day and their vision.
July in the Rocky Mountains has a way of showing off, even when there is lingering smoke in the air. The Bow Valley was lush and alive, the greens deep and vibrant, the mountains steady in the background like they always are. It felt like everything had aligned for them and although this was years ago, its become a fan favorite.
Their ceremony took place at Tree Island at the Canmore Nordic Centre, which had them tucked among the pines, quiet, intimate, and so incredibly grounding. The kind of space that doesn’t need anything extra, because it already is the moment.
Surrounded by their closest people and his brother officiation, Brittany and Tyson exchanged vows in a setting that felt both expansive and deeply personal all at once. There’s something about an outdoor ceremony in the mountains — the way the air feels, the stillness, the way everyone leans in just a little closer and holds a bit stiller.
It was simple in the best way.
And then there were the florals.
Designed by Hawthorn Plains, they brought in this beautiful layer of colour that played so effortlessly against the contrast of greens of the forest and the soft tones of the mountains. It felt artistic, expressive, and completely fitting for Brittany, especially knowing her creative roots. Show stoppers and florals that have found their way onto countless Pinterest boards.
Seamlessly coordinated by Cornerstone Weddings, there was space for moments to breathe, nothing rushed, nothing overdone and nothing they didn't want which is exactly how I hope every couple is able to structure their day.
We wandered through the Canmore Nordic Centre and out along the Bow Valley Parkway for portraits, taking full advantage of everything the landscape had to offer. These are the places that make Canmore weddings what they are with expansive views, always finding quiet pockets of nature, and that feeling of being completely immersed in it all.
As an Alberta wedding photographer specializing in Rocky Mountain weddings, this is exactly what I love most, not just the scenery (though it never gets old), but the way a place like this allows people to slow down and be fully present in their day.
Their reception at the Bill Warren Training Centre carried that same energy forward. Inside, it was warm and full of life. But just outside… the balcony.
It quickly became one of the most loved spots of the evening.
Drinks in hand, guests gathered out there again and again — stepping out for fresh mountain air, quiet conversations, and laughter that carried out into the valley. It was one of those spaces where so many of the in-between moments happened. The kind you don’t plan for, but end up meaning just as much.
Brittany wore a Martina Liana gown from The Bridal Boutique Calgary, paired perfectly with soft, effortless hair by Julia Joy and Alannah Hilton Makeup — everything coming together in a way that felt elevated, but still entirely her.
Nothing about the day felt forced. Just thoughtful, vibrant, and deeply rooted in who they are. Brittany and Tyson, your Canmore wedding was everything I hoped it would be for you— and then some.
Thank you for trusting me not just as your photographer, but as someone who’s had the privilege of knowing your story for so long. Your day was a perfect reflection of you both oh my goodness, creative, grounded, and surrounded by so much love and rooted in all the time over the decades that you've been building this life together.
